Zirconia-based blocks are dental restorative materials with high mechanical properties that have piqued the interest of the dental community. Furthermore, it has many unique properties such as phase transformation, high strength, and fracture resistance, and its manufacturing process is largely limited. The most distinguishing feature of zirconia is its ability to work on metallic frameworks and alumina. The metal framework used in zirconia blocks is very limiting in terms of aesthetic appearance due to its lack of translucency, especially when a clear tooth color is to be reproduced.

In fact, metal zirconia restorations can only absorb or reflect light, whereas it has a high degree of translucency in dental issues. Dental zirconia materials were the inspiration for the first use of CAD/CAM systems in the production of dental prostheses. There has been a recent trend toward the use of CAD/CAM systems to meet industrial quality standards, which is especially important for dental materials. Dental zirconia blocks contain frames that can be produced more efficiently in this manner. Following this, there was a significant increase in the development of other CAD/CAM laboratory systems. Because the white part of the zirconia prevents optimal aesthetic integration, a finishing material must be used.
